A foot in a mustard wool sock on a steel foot measuring plate beside an unlaced oxblood moc toe boot

Length first

Most people take half a size down from their sneakers. Try them late in the day, when your feet are at their largest.

Width second

The boot should feel snug across the widest part of your foot, never pinching. Leather gives a little, but only a little.

The heel last

Expect a small lift at the heel when the boot is new. It settles as the sole bends, usually within the first two weeks.
